The Darkwing Duet Book 1
Saoirse is a witch without magic and, because of this, suffers great cruelty from her parents, the king and queen. Also, there is a guard that takes a particular interest in her. Then, on her sister's awakening a stranger, Vane helps her out. Suddenly, the three now work together to help to find a lost artifact to heal the land from a decay that is spreading. Now they just have to find it.
This is the first book in the Darkwing Duet. Saoire is dealing with a great deal of mental health issues. Which is written to not only show the issue but also her coping with them. I found this done perfectly, as it shows the reality of how someone deals with their issues. Vane is one of those characters that has shadows but is all dark and broody. He reminds me of someone who cares deeply for others and will kill anyone who would harm them. I enjoyed reading this book and look forward to reading the next one, The Tainted Shadow.
