The Shepherd King Book 2

Elspeth has become trapped within her own mind, and Nightmare is in charge. Now he is bargaining with Ravyn and the King to help complete the deck before Winter Solstice. While Elm must navigate the court with a Maiden induced Ione in tow. There are dangers all around them and no one truly trusts one another even though on some level they all seem to be on the same road.

This is the second book in the Shepherd King Duet. Nightmare is such a complex character. At some points you hate him, while there are times that he is so beautifully kind. Ravyn is a man on a mission to save everyone he loves. There was a moment that I felt the need to give him a hug. The perspective of Elm helped in rounding out the narrative of the story. There is such an outstanding balance to this story. I loved this book. It gave me all the feels. I will be on the looking out for this author in the future as I felt this world and story were brilliantly written.

Product description and Images are from amazon.com:

“Gripped by a tyrant king and in the thrall of dark magic, the kingdom is in peril. Elspeth and Ravyn have gathered most of the twelve Providence Cards, but the last—and most important—one remains to be found: the Twin Alders. If they’re going to find the card before Solstice and set free the kingdom, they will need to journey through the dangerous mist-cloaked forest. The only one who can lead them through is the monster that shares Elspeth’s head: the Nightmare. And he’s not eager to share any longer.”
